New and Changed Features

Usability of Link Lists in the Editorial System

In CMS Fiona, link lists are not only used for pointing to related topics. Link lists often also serve to integrate logos, teasers, or topical information into a web page. If a link list is used for this purpose, it might be necessary to store a defined number of links in it to ensure that a teaser block on the web page is never partly or completely empty, for example.

For this, CMS Fiona now offers a simple mechanism: from version 6.7.0 you can now specifiy in the field settings of a link list the minimum and maximum number of links the field is required to contain:

If the number of links in the field is not in the range specified, a corresponding error message is displayed in the editorial interface and the file concerned cannot be released.

Furthermore, for making the selection of a link destination file easier, two new parameters can be specified, the starting folder and the file formats to which the selectable files should be restricted:

Due to these presets, editors no longer need to navigate to the folder containing the files to be linked to. Additionally, the file format restriction causes only the relevant files to show up as possible link destinations.

In the Tcl interface, the field size restriction can be defined by means of the field parameters minSize and maxSize. The starting folder and preselected file formats can be specified by means of the input field parameters startPub and objClasses.

Rails Connector

The Rails Connector has undergone a performance optimization, so that CMS content can now be delivered faster than before.

Editing elements (edit markers) have been extended. They can now be folded open and then also show the help text of the corresponding fields. Furthermore, the markers can now be switched on and off in the preview.

The action_marker helper now makes it possible to pass additional arguments to wizards.

For better usability the Rails Connector API has been simplified by no longer providing irrelevant data (such as field definitions) on the live side. However, this data is still provided for the CMS preview and is used there, for example, in the extended edit markers. The new access methods have been documented in the RDoc format. Additionally, the documentation for other parts of the API has also been extended.

Portal Manager

The user's presets for the individual portlets can now also be stored in a database table – see the preferencesStorage property in the portletContainer bean.

The News-Portlet now also takes the publication date and the date of the last change into account, if available in the feed.

The Portal Manager now also supports other dynamic content next to HTML – see the supportedContentTypes property in the portletContainer bean.

New Licensing Procedure

Version 6.7.0 and later of our software products require a different licensing procedure (the licensing model, however, was not changed). Therefore, prior to upgrading your CMS or Rails Connector installation, please carefully read the Notes on Upgrading.
